In the first quarter of 2024, Peru’s fresh pitahaya exports showed a significant increase, with a 178% rise in volume and a 287% increase in value compared to the previous year. During this period, the country exported 138 tons of pitahaya worth $392,391, according to Agro Perú.
This growth highlights Peru’s productive capacity and the growing acceptance of Peruvian pitahaya in international markets. In terms of value, exports experienced a 287% surge, rising from $101,329 in 2023 to $392,391 in 2024. In terms of volume, the increase was 178%, reaching 138 tons compared to 50 tons the previous year. Additionally, the average price per kilogram grew by 39%, from $2.04 to $2.85.
Peru’s pitahaya exports during this quarter were largely concentrated in two main markets: Spain and the Netherlands. Spain accounted for 53.9% of the exports, valued at $211,342 with an average price of $2.8 per kg, while the Netherlands represented 42.0%, with a value of $164,843 and a higher average price of $3.0 per kg.
Other destinations like Canada, Costa Rica, and Italy had smaller shares, with 2.6%, 0.9%, and 0.3%, respectively, reflecting the growing diversification of markets for Peruvian pitahaya.
Regarding the leading export companies, Camposol S.A. led the market with a 45.2% share, followed by Titan Fruit Import & Export S.A.C. with 24.8%, Agroindustria Baleno S.A.C. with 14.7%, North Valley S.A.C. with 4.7%, and FruitXchange S.A.C. with 4.4%. (Source: Agro Perú).
